Education

I graduated from Doane College in Crete, NE with majors in Spanish and Sociology in 2004. I studied abroad in Seville, Spain at the University during the fall semester of 2003. I also studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico for one month at the Cetlalic language institute. I received a Spanish-English Interpretation and Translation certification with emphasis on medical and legal vocabulary from the University of NE-Kearney in 2005.

Experience

My official website : www.aprendaconandrea.com I was recently nominated as Austin's #1 intermediate language instructor and am spotlighted on thumbtack: https://www.thumbtack.com/tx/austin/intermediate-language-lessons/ I have tutored Spanish for over 15 years. I started tutoring Spanish when I was in high school (I was also an assistant to the Spanish teacher, helping to grade papers & help out in her classes). While studying at Doane College, I was an assistant to the Spanish professor. I helped with classes, graded papers, & tutored other college students. I maintained A's in all of my Spanish classes. I am the true definition of a "language nerd". I also speak and read Brazilian Portuguese fairly well. I have been a Spanish translator and interpreter since 2004. I like tutoring because I like to help people understand the subject (I understand that not everyone can easily grasp the concept of learning a foreign language). I make learning easy and fun. I break down the hard concepts and apply it to daily life. I will tailor my classes to each individual. I also specialize in medical and legal Spanish. My students always like my "word association examples" to help them remember things! I have tutored all levels (beginner to advanced) and all ages (from 5-65!). I especially have a passion for working with special needs students. Apart from Spanish, I also help students with English and ESL. I started teaching ESL in 2004 at an immigration jail. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to pursue teaching it when I moved to Austin in 2009. I have worked with students from many different countries. I adapt my teaching style to the individual student because I understand that no one learns the same! ****Note: Discounted rates for groups and also for those in the Fire/Police/EMT/Military careers.
